Terms of Service

1. The service

EarnUP is a technology platform that helps people in Ethiopia find nearby workers or nearby paid work. We are not the employer of workers (unless we expressly hire someone in writing). We are not a party to the work agreement between an employer and a worker, except for operating escrow and related payment features as described here.

You create an account only in the iOS or Android app from the App Store or Google Play. This website is marketing information. It is not a job board and not a place to register.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract under Ethiopian law. You must use a mobile number you control. One person, one account unless we approve otherwise. You are responsible for activity on your account.

3. Roles

The same account may hire and work. When you post or accept a job you must describe the work honestly, show up or communicate if plans change, and follow Ethiopian law (including any licence needed for regulated work such as certain electrical or nursing tasks).

EarnUP does not guarantee that a worker or job will be available, that work will be completed to a particular standard, or that a rating is complete. You choose whom to work with.

4. Fees, wallet, and escrow

Download of the app is free. You pay for work and any fees shown in the app before you confirm. Amounts are in Ethiopian Birr unless stated otherwise.

When escrow is used, the employer’s funds are held until the job is marked complete according to the app’s rules, a dispute process finishes, or the hold expires as shown in the app. Released funds go to the worker’s EarnUP wallet, subject to any commission, payment-provider fee, or tax withholding we are required or entitled to apply and that we disclose in the app.

Top-ups and withdrawals go through payment partners (currently Chapa). Their terms and KYC rules may apply. Failed, reversed, or fraudulent payments may be clawed back. We may freeze a wallet if we suspect fraud, a dispute, or a legal hold.

You are responsible for your own taxes. EarnUP may issue information required by law.

5. Acceptable use

You will not: use EarnUP for illegal work; harass, threaten, or discriminate; post sexual content involving minors (zero tolerance); scrape or reverse engineer the service; bypass fees; create fake ratings; spam; impersonate others; or interfere with other users’ safety.

Voice notes, photos, and chat must be relevant to the job. Do not upload other people’s personal data without a lawful basis.

6. Location and communications

If you enable location, we use it to offer nearby jobs. In-app chat is for coordinating work. We may review messages when we have a safety, fraud, or legal reason. Push notifications are part of the service; you can disable them in phone settings, but you may miss job alerts.

7. Ratings and content

You grant EarnUP a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host and display content you submit (job text, voice, photos, profile) solely to operate and improve the service. You keep ownership of your content. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these Terms.

8. Disputes between users

If a job goes wrong, try to resolve it in chat. If escrow is open, follow the in-app dispute steps. We may, but are not obliged to, mediate or decide a release based on evidence you provide. Our decision on escrow release is final as between the platform and you, without limiting your right to take the other user to a competent Ethiopian forum.

9. Disclaimer

EarnUP is provided “as is”. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability or that matching will always succeed. To the fullest extent allowed by Ethiopian law, we are not liable for the quality of work performed by users, for off-platform payments, or for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law (for example fraud or personal injury caused by our negligence where such a rule applies).

10. Suspension

We may suspend or close accounts for breach, risk, inactivity, or legal reasons. You may stop using EarnUP at any time and request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. Outstanding escrow and lawful holds may delay full deletion.

11. App stores

Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and have no obligation to provide maintenance. Their standard licensed-application terms also apply. In-app purchases, if any, follow store rules.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Courts or other competent bodies in Addis Ababa have jurisdiction, without limiting mandatory consumer protections that apply to you.

13. Changes

We may change these Terms. We will update the date on this page. If a change is material we will notify you in the app or on the Site. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance of the new Terms.
